Rankings and AI answers
How Google positions and AI-assistant answers are collected.
Google rankings
Every tracked keyword is checked in Google once a day, early in the morning (UTC), for the site's country. Rank data comes from DataForSEO. Each keyword can be checked on desktop or mobile; desktop is the default.
Most days the first 20 results are read. Every Monday the check goes through the top 100, so keywords further down are found too.
If you connect Search Console, days without a rank check show Search Console's average position instead.
AI answers
Each question you track is asked to ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity once a week. ChatGPT and Gemini answers are collected from the chat apps the way a real user sees them, with ChatGPT searching the web. Perplexity answers come from its API.
For each answer Gralus saves the full text, which brands were named and in what order, the tone of each mention (positive, neutral or negative), and the websites the answer cites.
When a tracked keyword in Google shows an AI Overview and the keyword is the same as one of your questions, that overview is saved as an answer too.
Collect now
You can collect answers right away for up to 10 questions, up to 3 times per site per day. These answers come straight from each assistant's API while you wait, so they can differ a little from the weekly ones.
Competitors and sources
Competitors shows how often each brand is named, its average position and tone, and the questions where a competitor is named more often than you. Sources lists the websites AI answers cite, and which of them are cited where a competitor is named and you are not.
