Updating the WordPress plugin

How the plugin keeps itself up to date, and how to update by hand.

Automatic updates

From version 0.5.0 the plugin checks gralus.com for new versions a few times a day. A new version shows on the WordPress Plugins screen like any other update, with “View details” and a list of changes.

WordPress auto-updates are turned on for Gralus, so a new version usually installs within about 12 hours. You can turn auto-updates off on the Plugins screen; then click “Update now” under Gralus whenever you like.

Update now

In WordPress, open Plugins and click “Update now” under Gralus. Settings → WordPress in Gralus shows the installed version within a minute or so.

Older versions (before 0.5.0)

These cannot update themselves. In Gralus, Settings → WordPress shows a download button for the latest version. In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the file, and click “Replace current with uploaded”. The connection is kept; you do not need a new code.

Why it matters

Some features need a recent plugin. For example, Fix all pages needs 0.5.1 or newer to tell which pages WordPress manages.
